1. Search the Koha library catalogue for books, textbooks, government and non-governmental publications.
Searching tips: for a general search, use broad keywords such as ‘'mass media', ‘'media studies’, ‘communications’, 'communication' etc. Once you find a relevant book, click on the ‘subject’ links in the book record to find similar, related or more narrowly focused books. To find a specific book, author or subject, click on ‘Advanced search’
OPEN TEXTBOOKS
Online and downloadable textbooks available freely from (primarily) North American universities and colleges. As mass communications cross over into a number of general subject areas, it is easiest to search using broad terms such as: 'media', ‘mass media’, ‘media studies’, ‘communication’etc. and then filter by subject.

RECOMMENDED WEBSITES
Freedom House – is an independent watchdog organization dedicated to the expansion of freedom around the world. It produces reports by region and country on issues such as civil society, elections, and women’s rights. The section that is most relevant for Mass Communications students is the one on Media Freedom.
Human Rights Watch - news, analysis and resources from a human rights perspective. Contains reports on specific regions and topics. Updated daily.
World Public Opinion - WorldPublicOpinion.org is an international collaborative project whose aim is to give voice to public opinion around the world on international issues.
DATABASES, JOURNAL ARTICLES, & eREFERENCE SOURCES
JSTOR (Open Access Content Only) : Open access journals, books, research reports, and images primarily in the humanities and social sciences. Create a personal account to access a monthly quota of articles from the subscription database.
Project Muse Project MUSE offers open access (OA) books, journals, and digital humanities works from several distinguished university presses, scholarly societies, and independent not-for-profit academic publishers.
Research4Life portal provides online access to academic and professional peer-reviewed content including journal articles, reviews and reference resources. A select listing journals and reference sources available through the portal can be found below. Please be sure to log in to Research4Life before clicking on any of the links below.
