Searching tips: for a general search, use broad keywords such as ‘health’, ‘nursing’, nutrition’, ‘anatomy’, ‘maternal’ etc. Once you find a relevant book, click on the ‘subject’ links in the book record to find similar, related or more narrowly focused books. To find a specific book, author or subject, click on ‘Advanced search’
OPEN TEXTBOOKS
Online and downloadable nursing & health science textbooks available freely from (primarily) North American universities and colleges. Filter by subject area ‘Health, Medicine and Nursing’, or search using broad terms such as: ‘nursing’, ‘anatomy’, ‘health sciences’ etc.

MedlinePlus – US National Library of Medicine’s web site for patients and families provides information about diseases, conditions, and wellness issues. Available in multiple languages.
Merck Manual (Professional Edition) - Includes browsable sections on medical topics, audiovisual informational resources, symptoms overviews, clinical calculators, conversion tables, drug tables, normal laboratory values, abbreviations, selected links to useful websites, etc.
National Institutes of Health (NIH) Nursing Resources Guide - Access to nursing, biomedical, clinical trial, evidence based practice, and research instrument databases; drug and pharmaceutical resources; e-books; and patient education resources.
DATABASES, JOURNAL ARTICLES & eBOOKS
Research4Life portal provides online access to academic and professional peer-reviewed content and includes the Hinari collection of biomedical and health literature. A select listing of databases, journals and reference sources available through the portal can be found below:

CINAHL - The Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) indexes and abstracts articles from nearly 800 nursing, biomedical, and consumer health journals, as well as publications of the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing. Full text articles are accessible for hundreds of journals indexed in the CINAHL database.
Embase – Over 8,500 medical, biomedical, drug and pharmacy journals and conference abstracts from approximately 90 countries. Coverage dates from 1947 and selectively to 1902.
PubMed – Database of the National Library of Medicine comprising more than 35 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals, and online books. Citations may include links to full text content from PubMed Central and publisher web sites.
ClinicalKey - Full-text medical and surgical resources from Elsevier including ebooks, journal articles, clinical practice guidelines, point-of-care clinical monographs, procedural guides, images, videos, drug information, and patient education handouts.
Oxford Medicine Online - Collection of Oxford University Press’s digital medical books.
